ISAKOS

The Patellofemoral Foundation has worked closely with ISAKOS to select a recipient for the 2005 Patellofemoral Research Excellence award. This award was presented at the meeting of ISAKOS in Hollywood, Florida, April 3-7, 2005 (www.isakos.com)

ISAKOS and the Patellofemoral Foundation worked closely to chose among very strong applicants for the Patellofemoral Traveling fellowship. Special thanks to Dr Philippe Neyret, chairman of the ISAKOS selection committee.

Dr. Fredrik Almqvist of the University of Ghent, Belgium is the 2005 ISAKOS Patellofemoral Traveling fellow. His travel to centers of his choice to study patellofemoral disease has been funded by the Patellofemoral Foundation. Dr Almqvist was selected from a very competitive group of international applicants. His travel to date has included visits with Dr Fulkerson, Dr Neyret in Lyon, France, and Drs Ackroyd and Amis in United Kingdom.

Dr. Fredrik Almqvist

The ISAKOS/PFF traveling fellowship and research excellence awards are posted on the ISAKOS website www.isakos.com under Awards.

PF Foundation travelling fellowship awards for 2007 and 2008 are now available through the ISAKOS website. These will be announced at the next ISAKOS meeting in Tuscany, May 2007.

Jason Koh

Jason Koh

Jason Koh, M.D. was sponsored by the Patellofemoral Foundation to do educational travel regarding the patellofemoral joint. He visited with Dr Donald Fithian in San Diego September, 2004, and visited Chris Ackroyd and Andrew Amis in England. He also attended the 2005 meeting of the International Patellofemoral Study Group.

Jason Koh with Andrew Amis in the United Kingdom in October 2004. Dr Amis is a member of the International Patellofemoral Study Group and a leader in the sudy of patellofemoral biomechanics.

Research Grant

Drs Andrew Cosgarea and John Elias were awarded a $7500 research grant to study mechanical results of medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction. Dr Cosgarea is Director of Sports Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. Elias is at the Medical Education and Research Institute of Colorado.

In an independent ISAKOS research excellence competition, Drs Elias and Cosgarea were also awarded the 2005 ISAKOS Patellofemoral Research Excellence Award.

IPSG

The 2005 International Patellofemoral Study Group meeting (members only) was held in Lausanne Switzerland April 14-17, 2005 and hosted by Dr. Jacques Vallotton.

The 2006 International Patellofemoral Study Group meeting was held in Boston and hosted by Dr. Anthony Schepsis and Smith & Nephew Endoscopy.
